Program Name All Stars

The All Stars core program is a curriculum designed for middle school which focuses on normative education and character development, particularly as they relate to alcohol, tobacco, and other drug use; early initiation of sexual behavior; and violence-related behaviors. In his previous research, the program developer had identified four psychosocial characteristics that were most highly correlated with alcohol and tobacco use. These factors are specifically targeted by the All Stars program: 1) personal commitment to avoid participating in high-risk behaviors; 2) values and ideals that are incongruent with high-risk behaviors; 3) bonding with social institutions; and 4) conventional beliefs about social norms regarding high-risk behaviors. All Stars is highlighted in the Drug Strategies publications, Making the Grade and Safe Schools, Safe Students: A Guide to Violence Prevention Strategies. It is also featured in the 1998 Annual Report on School Safety.
