Program Name Second Step

Second Step is a school-based social skills curriculum that teaches children to change the attitudes and behaviors that contribute to violence. The curriculum aims to improve empathy, impulse control, and anger management to reduce impulsive behavior and aggression in children and increase their level of social competence. Second Step was highlighted in the Drug Strategies publication, Safe Schools, Safe Students: A Guide to Violence Prevention Strategies, the 1998 Annual Report on School Safety, and the Illinois Council for the Prevention of Violence’s Peacing It Together: A Violence Prevention Resource for Illinois Schools.

- Grade Level: from  Preschool to  Ninth grade
